MHF3202 was a great introduction to proof-based mathematics. The course was very manageable with Dr. Vatter, especially because he understood that proofs are difficult for students who are just starting out. The class was fair, test-heavy, and a strong foundation for later proof-based math courses.
The course covers sets, logic, proof techniques, functions, relations, cardinality, and other foundations of proof-based mathematics. It was very useful because it taught me how to think and write mathematically, which is essential for upper-level math courses.
Dr. Vatter is the kindest and most forgiving math professor I have ever had. He is extremely intelligent, gives great and passionate lectures, and does everything he can to make the course as approachable as possible. His curiosity is contagious, and he clearly cares about students learning the material.
Take this course seriously because it is your introduction to proof-based math, but do not be afraid of it with Dr. Vatter. He makes the transition much easier. Keep up with the material, practice writing proofs, and use his support when you need it. There is no extra credit, but the class is very fair.
