I love ASL personally and took 3 years of the language in high school so I found this class to be a little easier than others did, but most everyone in my class loves the class and the professor. If you're looking for a relatively easy and laid back language course, I totally recommend.
The textbook that is used for all 3 levels of ASL is true way and ASL 1 covers the first 4 units. The class is not 100% necessary for basically any major or minor at UF, but I believe that learning any language is useful.
She's amazing. Very friendly and chill. She is deaf and there won't be an interpreter for the class, so if that's non-negotiable for you, I don't think you would enjoy taking ASL at UF. Both professors are lovely though and if you're willing to step out of your comfort zone and learn ASL, Ralena is a great professor to have.

I love this course as I love ASL and I took ASL 1 with her as well. I found this class to be easy as I have taken ASL before and the assignments were not difficult. There are multiple attempts for each assignment except for the comprehension quizzes at the end of modules. This is definitely a participation and effort based class so as long as you put your best foot forward, you will do well. I don't know of a single person who failed this class.
The content is useful as we learned a variety of signs that can be used in day to day and professional settings.
I absolutely love Ralena she makes class enjoyable and she has a great personality. She is easy to talk to and answers promptly to emails. I 100% recommend taking her class.
