I took the American Coast section of the Research Seminar, and it was by far the best decision I could have made. If you have any interest in environmental history, this class is perfect to take.
Inside the classroom the course was based around readings done outside of class. I want to say it was four books we read, and each week we'd come in and discuss what we read. The other main part of the course was creating a decently long (~20 page) research paper.
Professor Davis is a true expert on environmental history. He's so knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches that it's a real pleasure to be able to discuss it with him. Sometimes class could drag on since they're 3 hour blocks, but he rarely went the full 3. Even if he did go close he was sure to give everyone a ten minute break about halfway through.
As long as you somewhat keep up with the readings you'll be okay. If you're busy one week and miss a bit you'll be okay, but if you totally skip out you'll get lost easy. As for the research project try to get an idea of a topic early. The sooner you can start the better. Also don't be afraid to workshop topics with Professor Davis, he's happy to help.

The class was very interesting from a wide range of perspectives. This can be great for anyone who is interested in history or environmental sciences.
The course is based around out of class readings. Largely discussion based. There are only four grades across the semester, being four essays. Two he'll give you prompts to write about, and the other two are self created research projects--one archival based and one internet based.
Professor Davis is a true expert on the topic. He is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He can be a stickler for grammar and his lectures can sometimes drag on, but overall he is a great person. Fair but very understanding.
