Comments on the course

Memorization-based, computational course, not too conceptually difficult. Might be harder if you decide to go further in the math branch, but most engineers stop here. No Proofs. All Computation. KNOW LAPLACE TRANSFORMS YOU WILL USE THEM (or Fourier transforms, which are very different but the concept is similar) LATER!

Course Content

Covers elementary differential equations, and is entirely computational. The concepts were pretty simple, especially if you have gone through all 3 basic calculus courses previously.

Comments on the professor

Seems miserable, but very good at her job. I feel bad for her sometimes, especially when she vents infront of the class. Love her teaching style though, very upfront, and makes complicated thing simple.

Advice

Do all the homeworks, and do like 2 practice exams before the exams. The practice exams are kind of dated, and dont really reflect the actual exams too well for about 4-ish questions, but are good review. Exam Difficulty Tier List (Most Difficult Top, Least Bottom) 1. Exam 4, The Cumulative Final 2. Second Exam, Second-Order Differential Equations 3. Third Exam, Laplace Transforms 4. First Exam, First-Order Differential Equations

Conceptually challenging but easy to get a good grade because of generous grading.

Course Content

Memorizing different methods of solving differential equations

Comments on the professor

My actual professor was Dr. Scott Keeran so I can't really talk on Demas, but he was a great professor and I actually prefer his lectures over Demas' online videos.

Advice

Just do all the homework, quizzes, and practice tests and you'll be fine.

Prof: Paul Robinson / Spring 2022

Comments on the course

The course is very interesting and quite easy. There are not a lot of unique topics, so the class progresses at a rather slow pace. This enables the development of a deep understanding of the material.

Course Content

The course grade (for the honors section) is based entirely on four in class exams. However, the exam questions are very straightforward and simple. If you keep up with the (optional) homework, you should have no trouble getting an A.

Comments on the professor

Dr. Robinson is wonderful. His lectures are very insightful, and his explanations are splendid. He is very passionate about moths and will occasionally take some time to talk about and show pictures of them.

Advice

I highly recommend taking the honors section as Dr. Robinson is an excellent professor. Do the homework. It may not be graded, but it is still incredibly beneficial to regularly complete it instead of putting it off or ignoring it.

Comments on the course

Mostly a lot memorization of formulas and a heavy amount of algebra. Calc 2 is definitely not necessary, as it is mostly used in the last section of the course, where anything you need to know is reviewed pretty well. The final exam is cumulative and definitely a lot more brutal then the rest of the exams; make sure to prepare for that one. Overall not too hard but relatively time consuming.

Comments on the course

Class is basically an extension of Calc 2 and very heavy on memorization.

Course Content

Expect to relearn trig identities and random integral formulas that you probably forgot from last year.

Comments on the professor

Demas is the best prof out of the MAP2302 profs.

Advice

The class period you chose does not matter since you can listen to any professor's lectures and class has no iClickers.
