真有意思!Very interesting course!
Made me learn a lot about Buddhism, pretty good course!
He replied to all my messages very quickly. The most prompt prof I had at UBC so far.
Keep an eye on deadlines and you'll do great.

This course was awesome! All capitals A.W.E.S.O.M.E! Seriously, one of the most intellectually engaging, yet not too difficult courses I ever took at UBC!
The lectures and the readings were fun and easy to follow, The quizzes were relatively easy too. I didn't do great on my final paper because I was working practically full-time in December, but still, since I did fine on my quizzes and short response assignments, I pulled off an A-
Sam knows so much about Buddhism! Oh my Buddha!!! I have learned some stuff in this course about Buddhism that was at first counterintuitive, but as the course progressed the pieces of the puzzle fell into their proper places. Thank you Sam!
Talk to the prof if you have time to make it to optional Zoom sessions. And ask him about his experiences practicing many different Buddhist traditions. This guy is not just a walking encyclopedia of Buddhism, but apparently was a practicing Buddhist himself for many years. Great stuff!

The most interesting course I ever took at UBC
Sexuality in all major Asian religions is a fascinating topic
A really cool guy! Pros: interesting lectures. Cons: strict on the deadlines.
I wish I knew Sam also teaches other courses in Asian Studies. I would definitely take those, too.

I took it as an elective, but the course was so interesting that I'm now thinking of making Asian Studies my major.
The part on tantra was a blast!
Dr. Shooklyn is a great prof! We need more like him.
Don't miss the deadlines on quizzes haha
