Comments on the course

I dropped it (before UBC returned to in-person later in the sem) because there were so many small things to do during the week. It's not insanely hard or anything but there are a lot of small and big assignments.

Course Content

I thought it was pretty dry. Compared to ASIA 367 it was so much more boring and assignment heavy. That's my personal opinion though.

Comments on the professor

Seemed really nice.

Advice

Could be an okay class to take if your other classes are easy.

Comments on the course

lots of readings every week and you might be learning more about Chinese politics than you would initially expect. covers different topics weekly like animations/music, commercial movies, leisure and consumerism and reality tv/drama. assignments include rhetorical analysis on a Chinese pop culture artifact (ie. a tv show episode), a UBC wiki group project and a final critical research paper or choice of doing a creative alternative (ie. a video essay). prof is super nice + easy to talk to, adjusted the amount of readings and leniency to weekly activities after feedback. i got a good mark (class avg was 78) because i was very interested in the material, but tagged medium difficulty because u must invest time to do the readings and complete micro lectures/weekly study journals etc.

Advice

be prepared for all the readings and taking notes on the lectures to be able to thrive in this class!
