Comments on the course

Just terrible. Having to learn the subject matter a day before actual class It should've ben we do the reading assignments after we learn the subject in class. What is the lecture for then? Learning Catalytics? Also, the incentive to not learn but get an answer right for Learning Catalytics is not helping me learn by wanting to look up the answer or collaborate with another person. The way that she treats her students sometimes "You guys should com to class instead of watching the livestream" "Back in my day we didn't have all of our assignments graded. We had to keep all of our papers. You guys are SO SPOILED" Giving false info to students about what is going to be on tests is very frustrating. I was told from people in Pope's class that we would have the equations but form her claps tha...read more

Comments on the professor

Awful. Just awful. I don't want to know about how you don't eat spam, just teach me please. Sometimes having a PhD doesn't make you a good teacher.

Advice

That I should've just taken another chemistry course at my old college instead of suffering here.

Comments on the course

The worst required weed-out course for STEM majors. The lectures, assignments, and homework do not help you prepare for the exams (3 midterms + 1 final). The labs are very unorganized and the TA's don't know what is going on either. A lot of the lab materials are broken or just don't work. During one lab, I had a pipe above me leaking and dropping water (I hope) on my head during the entire lab period.

Course Content

I re-learned material from my high school chemistry class. If anything, this class just confused my understanding of chemistry more as it is not organized well in the slightest. The professor often taught concepts entirely wrong in class and I had to go home and re-teach myself the material from other online resources not provided by the university.

Comments on the professor

The professor is horrendous. She constantly swears during class, is rude to her students, is not willing to make accommodations, and doesn't even follow her own syllabus. She did stream the lectures on canvas so I didn't have to attend the class in-person which I appreciated. She refuses to make changes in her own teaching style and blames the students for bad exam scores (our exam 2 average being a 48 with a median of 46 with no curve or opportunities for corrections).

Advice

I wish I had taken AP Chemistry in high school so I did not have to take this course at Washington State University from Krista Nishida. Despite the massive workload of Aleks material, it is not enough to prepare you for her obscure exams. Study from another source. The textbook and Aleks will not help you.
