Its just beams. Literally only beams. Programs have been made to do what you learn in this class. It is a large workload, with homework being derivations and proofs, as well as writing some programs on matlab.

The only reason the class was manageable was the teacher was AMAZING. Thomas Chase is a gem, definitely my favorite professor at the U.

Homework is a small part of the grade so don’t worry when the assignments are 10 hours long to do.
