Comments on the course

It is not necessarily difficult material but there are lots of assignments. This is nice so exams are not weighted so much. There is also an easy opportunity for point with the project. Definitely more useful for people who want to study evo/devo in animals, plants, etc

Course Content

I found the content somewhat interesting. Some people were really into it and had great discussion posts and passion for the class. I was taking this as a requirement but still enjoyed the material.

Comments on the professor

Dr. Douglas is kind and fair however he can be difficult to reach at times. His lectures are easily to follow and slow-paced but they do not cover everything that will be covered on exams.

Advice

It's a heavy workload, especially during summer with other classes so keep that in mind. Reading the textbook is a very useful supplement, do not just watch lectures.

Comments on the course

I may be biased on how I describe this course as this content was incredibly interesting to me (to the point where I would have so much fun reading the textbook and studying for exams), but regardless, I will try to give an honest review. As for weights on exams and assignments, it is very fair. Only two exams (20% each) with a quiz, 1-2 discussions, and textbook readings + lectures each week. There are also 7 lab assignments for this class that vary greatly in length and difficulty and a project. Addressing each graded component of the class: Exams- I thought the exams were very fun and fair. Class average was about a 75% for both exams. The questions are tricky and require you to really think about the course material critically (especially the vocab/terms). I think everyone was capabl...read more

Course Content

Useful for people going into any biological sciences or natural history.

Comments on the professor

He is nice and endearingly awkward during the recorded lectures. You won't have much interaction with him throughout the course, though, since it's mostly automated. He responds to emails quickly and seems really passionate about the content and your learning.

Advice

Do your assignments on time (stay on top of them), start labs early, read the textbook and engage + understand the content in the reading.
