Comments on the course

I took this course 3 times. My first 2 attempts with Professor Huang and my 3rd attempt was with Professor Shabazz (whom I highly recommend). The course itself is not too bad so long as you keep up with the homework assignments.

Course Content

The homeworks are critical to learning how to solve problems in my opinion. However it is very easy to fall behind on homework because they directly correlate to each lecture (so you have roughly 12 questions to complete after each lecture and they can be very time consuming). For exams they release old exams to practice with. I highly recommend using those to practice and study with.

Comments on the professor

As I previously stated, I took this course twice with Prof. Huang and once with Prof. Shabazz. Each professor follows the same lecture notes and uses the same homework assignments. What sets each Professor apart is how they lecture. Prof. Huang talks way too fast during lectures and has a thick accent which makes it hard to understand her. Prof. Shabazz took her time going through lectures and had a great way of explaining the concepts. She occasionally makes mistakes during lectures but she quickly corrects them. Also, she often dropped hints as to what questions will be on exams, so go to her lectures or watch her recordings (especially towards the end of each unit as that’s when she writes each exam). I felt like she really cared about us and she was very understanding.

Advice

Don’t let yourself fall behind on the homeworks. It’s very easy to do, however once you fall behind it’s exponentially more difficult to catch back up. My advice is to make time to head to the library sometime between each lecture to work on the homework assignment. Also, Professor Leonard on YouTube has some amazing calc 3 videos.

Comments on the course

Definitely one of the more manageable calculus courses. As long as you don't slack off during lectures or fall behind on your homework, it should be relatively easy to get an A. With exception to the final, the exams are surprisingly easy, and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities to boost your grade.

Course Content

The content for the first 2 modules is essentially the basics of Calculus 1 and 2 but applied to the 3D space. You should probably know most of this stuff, but now you need to apply it to the third dimension. The last couple of modules (especially the last) are a little more difficult and introduce some ideas that are a little harder to grasp conceptually.

Comments on the professor

Shabazz is great. I've seen lectures from some of the other professors, and Shabazz seems to be the best. She fell behind the other professors a couple times throughout the semester, but it didn't happen very often and didn't have a huge impact other than having to skip a couple of examples to catch up. If you're able to, I highly recommend taking it with Shabazz.

Advice

The first three exams are extremely easy if you pay attention to lectures and honestly do the homework. The last exam isn't as easy, but if you take advantage of the first three exams and do well on them, you can guarantee yourself an A even with a not so good final exam score. There are also extra credit opportunities in each module. They are all extremely easy, and there's no reason not to do them. Unless you are really struggling, you shouldn't need study edge for this course. Also, if you are an incoming freshman with calc 1 and 2 credit and your advisor is trying to tell you to retake calc 2, don't listen to them. Take this class instead.

Comments on the course

definitely a conceptual course, but it starts out nice and slow. Personally, it has really taught me how to think 3D and i love calc so it was a good class

Course Content

calc quiz every week, 3mid terms, final exam, and a bunch of extra credit opportunities are offered. xronos is assigned for each lecture, but it’s not necessarily overwhelming, just a bit time consuming. the content for the first two exams are very easy, but exam 3 and the final exam become much harder. take advantage, study hard for the first two exams and you’ll thank yourself cause the next two weren’t that easy.

Comments on the professor

shabazz was awesome. even if u cant get shabazz, i believe whatever professor u have will still have recordings of shabazz’s lectures on canvas so you should be ok if u don’t get her.

Advice

actually do the xronos, it’s get prep for the exams practice with the practice exams do the extra credit!!! you’ll thank yourself

Comments on the course

I would say it is conceptually a difficult course, but it is very forgiving due to a large amount of extra credit available and curves on all the exams.

Course Content

Three-dimensional applications of differentials and integrals. I would say it is important for engineering/physics applications but probably useless for others.

Comments on the professor

Dr. Shabazz isn't the most effective lecturer and often makes little errors/gets confused, which in turn confuses you. But she is very nice and seems to want her students to do well

Advice

Make sure to attend discussions and take advantage of all extra credit opportunities. Actually do the xronos, use study edge
