I thought this was a good class, especially for those interested in learning about the history of American medicine through an intersectional lense, and I enjoyed it. I will say the online format makes it a little bit less engaging, but the lectures are good and you learn more through them if you attend.
There are 2 discussion assignments through perusall due every week, which do require you to read a lot but it’s possible to have great responses without needing to read every portion of the texts they use. Also, we had to do the “show and tell” assignments which were considered the module exams but it was writing assignments where you research a historical newspaper through the recourse the professor provides, as well as relevant lesson material, historical evidence, and lecture material (this is where going to the lectures becomes important, attendance isn’t mandatory but you won’t get a great grade on these assignments unless you go to the lectures and take notes on what is discussed) no final and no quizzes
The professor was good, I thought she was passionate and engaging and clearly cared about what she was teaching as well as her students. If you don’t go to the lectures for a while she will reach out to you just an fyi.
Can be kinda tedious at times, but it’s semi easy to get a good grade if you put the effort in and pay attention to the material. Would take again.
