Prof: Libin Rong / Fall 2025

MAS4105 was a great proof-based linear algebra course and was very manageable with Dr. Rong. The course is test-heavy, with grades based on 75% exams and 25% quizzes, so every point counts. There are no free points, but the class is fair, useful, and a strong foundation for upper-level mathematics.
The course covers proof-based linear algebra: vector spaces, subspaces, linear transformations, bases, dimension, matrices, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, inner products, and related theory. It was very useful because linear algebra is central to higher mathematics and many applied fields.
Dr. Rong is an amazing professor. He is kind, clear, respected, and very good at teaching linear algebra. He only teaches one course per year, so if you have the chance to take it with him, do it. Darren Schmidt was also an excellent TA, and both of them were very kind.
Take the quizzes and exams seriously because every point matters. Keep up with the homework, study consistently, and do not expect free points or much extra credit. The course is very fair and manageable with Dr. Rong, but it rewards careful preparation and steady work.
