Comments on the course

This course covers a broad range of business systems and software. In the first half, you are designing business systems, and in the second half you are implementing them. Groups are assigned early on and you will sit with your group during class. Group work is common, but usually easy. Exams are very fair, and practice tests are given in class. The reading really matters, but there is not a ton of it. There were two exams. The professor allowed a cheat sheet on the final, and there was a curve.

Course Content

The first half of the class was focused around studying and designing business systems. The second half of the class focused on the implementation of business processes. We used software such as Excel, Access, Python, Tableau, Citrix, etc. No prior knowledge of this software is necessary, though basic excel knowledge helps. Going into this class, I had zero experience with coding or design, but I never struggled because instructions were clear, and we never went into too much depth with any software. There was a lot of focus on audit and AI in the second half of the course.

Comments on the professor

Professor Munoko is the best professor I've ever had. She is very organized and knowledgeable, and she gives great feedback. She is really good at connecting class work to real-world scenarios. She is also ALWAYS happy to help, in class or out. During class, it was very common for students to approach her for help or advice for the in-class assignments. She plans very well for each lesson, but even if you are struggling to finish the in-class assignments before class is over, she will extend the deadline or wave the late penalty so that you won't lose credit. She truly, truly cares about her students and even let us take the final exam a day early so that we wouldn't have to double up with FAR1 finals on the same day. I would never recommend choosing another professor over her. In my opini...read more

Advice

Do the textbook readings. A lot of them are pretty short, and even the long ones aren't bad. Textbook readings, the professor's lectures, and class exercises are all fair game for the exams. Class participation is graded, but she allows you several options for earning points, including participation through Piazza. It's really not hard at all to earn all 5 points, but make sure you put effort in. Don't ever skip class, because there are in-class assignments that you will be unable to complete if you are absent. Don't take this class with Professor Falk if you can help it.
