Prof: Edwin Marte / Summer 2025
Oct 18, 2025
Easy class with a gentle introduction to various engineering skills. Assignments weren't difficult and the main focus of the course was to prepare you for your final: a group project where you design something to help people using the skills you learn in the class. The class has a bit of writing (including a final report), but it's nothing worrying, since you will be using a lot of diagrams and images. Attendance is also recorded via Canvas "quizzes" (usually simple writing assignments).
Over the semester, you'll learn the basics of CAD (using Onshape), 3D printing (with Cura Slicer), and circuitry (with Arduino, including the programming for it). On the less technical side, you also briefly learn about engineering ethics and focus more on human-centered design.
Prof. Marte was pretty good. He came from an electrical/electronics engineering background so he had a lot to say regarding Arduino. However, I took the course over the summer, so some lectures had to be shortened, meaning he wasn't able to explain in the most detailed manner for beginners. He was really nice and made sure everyone had a good idea of what they were doing though!
