Prof: Tuhin Das / Fall 2021

Jul 17, 2022

Comments on the course

While the content is very difficult, Tuhin Das does his best to make it approachable and interesting.

Course Content

Like Vibrations and Controls (EML 4225), this course falls into two halves: more vibrations, focusing on systems with multiple degrees of freedom that interact with one another, and more controls, focusing on more complex aspects of controls, root locus, and design of more complex control systems.

Comments on the professor

His exams are challenging (although that’s largely due to the content itself being challenging). His lectures can be a bit dry, but he does a good job introducing the content you need to know.

Comments on the course

The class was in-depth and satisfying with exams that match the homework and content reasonably well.

Course Content

The class goes more in depth from Vibrations 1, looking at two degree of freedom based mass/spring systems, root loci, and frequency/phases and how to graph them based on equations.

Comments on the professor

The professor is very good at explaining concepts though the lectures can become dry.

Prof: Tuhin / Fall 2020

Comments on the course

Vibes and Controls 2. Delves deeper into both sections and requires a fair understanding of EML 4225 material for any chance at success. Tests are similar to material gone over in class and homework. His homework are graded harshly so you can't half-ass them if you want a good grade on them.

Advice

Practice the homework problems until you get them, same goes for the lecture questions. The first test requires a good understanding of vibrations, the second a mix bag, and the final controls. All three tests are difficult, but like anything in this major you do enough practice problems and you'll succeed. Tuhin's lectures are not mandatory, but he is amazing at explaining the material. The one hour lecture is worth hours of solo studying. The final is worth nearly half your grade so know your bode plots! All of the tests are difficult, but SIMILAR to his lecture problems.
