Pretty much a useless class. The only things you learn here are things that you would probably easily learn on your own as you make way through academia. The vast majority of things you are taught will probably not apply to your field.
Content was boring. You learn quite a bot about climate change denialism but I doubt there are many people interested in that. You have to write a 2000 word essay on a topic you will likely not be interested in and have absolutely no background in.
The prof was good as a teacher, and gave helpful feedback, but he marks VERY harshly.
If you are taking this class just to get done with your Communications requirement, make sure you go for a section that has a topic you are interested in.

Enjoyed the class and the topic, hated how it was graded. Standard writing course, with a focus on research writing. Useful for anyone interested in going into research or who expects to read research papers. I literally used my research proposal presentation template from this class for my own actual research proposal.
Andrew grades VERY harshly ;-;

Objectively, the class is not bad. It teaches you how to read, write, and analyze scientific articles, which you will find very useful later. However, personally, I found it extremely boring, the material poorly explained and no feedback at all. Also received "major issues on sentence-level writing". I have a Cambridge C2 certificate and a lifetime of English experience. Never even got an explanation for why I got such a bad grade. Also, the final, 2000-long paper assignment is simply ridiculous - close to 0 meaning, a task to write a meaningful essay on topic I have no interest, nor experience in, with a very short preparation time. Terrible class. Hope I won't fail the year because of it.
Useful, but poorly explained.
Andrew Conolly lacks all the qualities of a good professor. He is shut, unreachable, and does not provide good feedback. I get that it is hard to manage a large university class, however, you must still make at least a little effort. I had middle school teachers than him. Dr. Conolly, if you're reading this - quit.
Be ready to write an actual paper. Get your "sentence-level writing" up to Dr. Conolly's level.
