Comments on the course

This is probably one of the best classes I took in my time at UBC. Sheryda is not only a fantastic poet, she's an incredible teacher who really took the time to get to know me and my poetry over the course of CRWR 201, 301, and then 351. Unfortunately, I was a CRWR minor, and this was as far as I could go on the poetry track. But WOW was I glad to take this class. You're expected to write a new poem every couple of weeks, and then go through intensive in-class critique and response with colleagues. I solidified many a friendship in this class, and my memories of going over poetry with my _friends_ is what lasts in my head from this class. Advice

Take this seriously, and you'll have no problems. If you're taking this class because you think poetry will give you an easy A: don't. You'll make it worse for everyone involved, and I guarantee everyone will know you're not really giving it your all. Be open to critique, understanding it comes from a place of love and respect from other poets expecting the same love and respect from you. Everyone who takes this class is here to become better writers and thinkers. If that sounds like you, you'll love your time here.
