This course was awesome to take from the professor and every class was engaging through his passion for teaching. The material was often challenging in class as there was not much time spent on each topic, the seminars where helpful (they are optional).
He was knowledgable about undergraduate research opportunities.

Tierney is a great prof, but be prepared to write down everything he says! His builds his exams based on the discussions had in the lectures that year so they are kinda personalized every year. Because of this, I'd say attendance is mandatory because most of what he lectures about isn't directly stated on slides. The textbook is optional but incredibly helpful/informative! So if you don't understand some topics you should definitely try reading that section in the textbook.
I found the content to be super interesting, however there is a lot of content! Not everything in class mentioned is important but Tierney really likes giving the whole picture for most concepts which is awesome. I will say though because there is so much content, you should be interested in this course to be able to keep up with it all.
Very knowledgeable, spoke fast and quickly at times. Sometimes hard to keep up with because he would just talk so much and the things he was saying wouldn't be on the slides.
Be prepared to take lots of notes! Most slides are just an image or graph and then we as a class discuss and draw conclusions from it, and these often show up as test questions!

This was a really excellent course with a passionate professor and TAs. The material was interesting and engaging, and Teirney was always open to hearing suggestions on how to modify the course. However, the midterms and final were a bit difficult and it is important to understand the material versus memorizing tiny details. The weekly seminars helped a lot and there were only two easy assignments that made up 20% of the course mark
