Prof: Slobodan Sucur / Fall 2020

Comments on the course

I had Dr. Sucur for an online 103 class and it was great. His website is easy to navigate and the class was fully asynchronous. He also gives lots of time for assignments and the lectures were really clear and easy to follow. Interesting topics were chosen and we did movie analysis too.

Advice

Start assignments early and attend all lectures if you want a good grade in his class. Definitely not an easy A like some students post.

Prof: Robyn Fowler / Winter 2021

Comments on the course

Professor Fowler is a really polite, exciting and, kind professor. Her marking is not too strict and even though her feedback can be kind of brief, she is willing to meet up with you to discuss your grade. The novels we read in class were super interesting, although it might not be something that everyone enjoys as they are quite intense.

Advice

Please attend the class. Not only does it count towards participation, but she does not post the recordings unless you have a legitimate excuse for missing class.

Prof: Teresa Zackodnik / Fall 2020

Mar 28, 2021

Comments on the course

Great course taught by a great professor! Our course focus was the Black Prairie Archives Anthology by Karina Vernon, and about Black and Indigenous historical texts in general. Lots of great resources to look at in this course, and we even had a few opportunities to meet the authors of the texts we had read in class! This course is decently workload intensive though, especially for the final project, so stay focused and work hard.

Advice

The grading can become a little harsh at times, but if you listen and build off of what was said by your TA and Prof in your writing feedback, you should be able to be pretty successful in this course!

Comments on the course

Really interesting course(J.R.R.Tolkien, LOTR was the text for this term) but harsh in terms of grading.

Advice

Just read the textbook and do the assignments and you are good to go.

Prof: Neal Barnholden / Fall 2018

Mar 28, 2021

Comments on the course

Neal made his class so fun. It was a night class, so 3 hours long. It usually went by super fast. His class topic was popular culture, so we read Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1860s publication date) and Watchmen (the graphic novel). I loved the readings. Both were interesting and the discussions we had in class were fun. Neal also was a super easy marker, and gave back loads of feedback. He made an intro English class really easy and was a great help getting my feet planted as an English Major.

Advice

Remember to check the theme of the class and pick one you are interested in, as well as looking at the profs rating.

Prof: Slobodan Sucur / Winter 2020

Comments on the course

People say Dr. Sucur is a good prof, they are not wrong, but honestly his class was kind of boring. The texts he picked to study were pretty niche, and somewhat difficult to connect to and find research on. I honestly didn't mind this class too much at all, it was bearable until it went online. Dr. Sucur did not adapt well, and expected students to "discuss" the texts on some obscure discussion board with very little guidance on his part. After 0 students participated, he abandoned the idea and decided to post voice lectures. I stopped attending class after that point.

Advice

Check the prof's "theme" for the class and pick one that is interesting to you.
