Prof: Keshwaree Babooram / Fall 2021

Dec 15, 2021

Comments on the course

Personally found this class super hard and had to teach myself everything since I didn’t find baboorams notes helpful. You either pay attention in the lectures or do notes you cannot do both because there’s literally one sentence per page of notes and you fill the rest yourself. I know people compliment her but it’s basically because they taught themselves after class instead of her actually teaching us, a lot of people also stopped going to lectures cause of how tedious and minimally useful they were.

Advice

She relies heavily on “previous knowledge” so you should brush up on chem 30 before going into this class

Prof: Melis Gedik / Fall 2020

Dec 11, 2021

Comments on the course

The course is, in my opinion a very fair introduction to university chemistry as it brings topics that most have previously seen in high school and places emphasis on other important topics for other courses such as organic chemistry courses.

Comments on the professor

Dr. Gedik is a really great professor and does a good job of explaining at time confusing topics.

Advice

Physics 30 is very helpful in the course and I would recommend taking it in high school if possible.

Prof: Ran Zhao / Fall 2019

Comments on the course

Great prof, doesn't have a very noticeable accent, cares about students! Course-wise, the content is not too relevant for future courses. Exam questions make you think. Lab is horrible. Yorem wants the class average to be low - close to failing. Brace yourself for stupidly irrelevant labs and being docked 0.5s for not having correct significant figures.

Advice

Go to the TA help room in the CHEM building (during non-COVID times)! The TAs can give you answers because they look at the answer key. Some TAs are more laxed than others so be prepared to ask a few. Every little thing in your lecture notes are testable - diagrams, graphs, specific phrases, etc.

Comments on the course

Really great prof who goes above and beyond in teaching. The course itself is a bit difficult in comparison to high school material but definitely manageable

Advice

Keep up with the lectures and understanding the material

Prof: Michael Reid / Fall 2019

Mar 27, 2021

Comments on the course

This course is hard, as the level of knowledge from high school to university is a big step. If you take the time to really study, you should be fine. Labs were okay for the most part.

Advice

Prepare to get recked on the lab exam.
