Comments on the course

A fun and interesting course. Topics are interesting. Labs are hands-on. Attendance is not required. Professor taught two lecture and lab sessions. Students could attend either or both sections (either or both lecture sections and either or both lab sections). Lecture and labs are recorded (Zoom).

Course Content

The class uses the two Cisco Networking Academy courses: IoT Fundamentals: Connecting Things and IoT Fundamentals: IoT Security. Lectures are based on the material in these two courses. The lab was from these courses (IoT Security labs became extra credit due to not having enough time in the semester). Labs are fun and useful. Some lab assignments use NETLAB. Labs might take time to complete, but overall, they are not very difficult. Arduino and Raspberry Pi kits are used. There were opportunities for students to go to lab class in person (Friday lab section).

Comments on the professor

Professor is passionate about computer networking and IoT. You can tell as he goes into detail talking about the course material (class lectures are long). He is a nice and friendly person. Lectures tend to go past the end time as the professor talks a lot. Professor uses most of the lab time to talk about computer networking topics. Could have spent more time in the lab sessions helping students with lab assignment issues/questions.

Advice

It's best to complete lab assignments soon even though the professor accepts late submissions. You can get help early on/figure out any issues with the lab assignments if you do them early on. Plus, it feels much better when you complete the labs early.
