Comments on the course

A tremendously difficult class, but you will learn a lot in it. Be prepared to spend hours of your week reading stuff, doing homework, & working on labs. There are 2 sections. The hybrid section (which I took, runs from 11:30A-2:20P), & the online asynchronous section.

Course Content

The class goes over various aspects of GIS such as: Digitizing, GPS & GIS data formats, table joins, database forms, vector & raster analysis, terrain analysis, cartographic modeling, and so much more

Comments on the professor

The professor & his TA are tough graders. They expect near perfection. Even small mistakes will get points docked. Every map you make is expected to have the following: A north arrow, scale bar, legend, a title, your name, the date you made it, and a neat line to surround it all

Advice

The D2L will open up weeks before class starts. You can use this time to verify that you have the right textbook, and you can even choose to start reading & working ahead of time. It's optional, but something to consider. Also, there will be a midterm and 2 finals. The midterms will happen the week after spring break. Also, there will be a lab final, and a lecture final.
