I loved this course! Dr. C was really great, she encouraged class discussion but it wasn't mandatory to participate. Lectures were also recorded, she said that student usually only come for test 1 and 2 which was very true.

The content was mostly based on the historical progression of families in society, we do get into more contemporary stuff near the end. While it is very history focused, she makes the content easy to understand. There was only one paper worth 35% but the TA graded very fair, I found it to be one of my easier papers I've written so far. The paper is also all based on the readings, so textbook is needed. There were also two tests, (midterm, exam, closed book). Exam test was done in class before the examination period as well. There was a tutorial but not mandatory to attend.

Dr. C is a pretty engaging prof, she brings in her own experiences to explain concepts that may be a bit hard to grab onto. That being said, she would get off topic but I still found it pretty engaging.

If you need an elective that a bird take this class, I would classify it as one but you do need to review the content before tests. All her exams are multiple choice, and as long as you are comfortable understanding the material you'll do fine.
