Comments on the course

This course had the potential to be one of the most powerful and important classes I’ve taken at ASU. The material itself—deep, thought-provoking, and relevant—deserves that recognition. However, the way the course was taught made it incredibly difficult to engage with the content meaningfully. Instead of encouraging exploration and critical thinking, the environment felt punitive and overly rigid. The professor’s approach centered far more on enforcing technicalities than on cultivating understanding. For example, substantial points were repeatedly deducted for paraphrasing rather than quoting directly—even when it was evident that the student had a clear and comprehensive grasp of the material.
