Prof: Eric Nichols / Spring 2022
Jul 15, 2022
This class is well worth it if you're looking to experience film photography, darkroom developing, and printing. It's a heavier course load due to the fact that all assignments will need to be done in the photo lab after you've gone out to shoot, but the experience in learning photography basics while also getting to understand film in the modern day is honestly a bit of a gem for WSU. This was my first and probably only time working in a dark room and it was honestly a really cool experience. If you have room on your schedule and the time for it, definitely take it!
Manual photography basics (light, depth of field, framing, etc.). Film is less relevant today obviously but the basics of photography are still really useful for anyone looking to improve their photo skills.
Professor Nichols is great. He's really down to earth, and you can tell he knows a lot about what he's talking about. Sometimes he gets a bit lost in his thoughts when explaining concepts or assignments, but he's super personable and willing to help you out wherever you might need it.
If you're looking for digital photography, there's a class specifically called that if you're interested. This is strictly just old school film and darkroom developing.
