Comments on the course

It was a great introductory course on Chinese; our class felt like a little community and I got to meet a lot of amazing classmates. I applaud Tian Laoshi for successfully conducting such an orally and participation-intensive class online.

Course Content

This course teaches the basics of speaking Chinese (mandarin), and you will learn basic vocabulary as well as explore different topics such as family, friends, school, travel, etc., all based on the textbook by Cheng and Tsui, "Integrated Chinese 1 (Simplified Characters), 4th Edition." We even got to practice our Chinese with students from a university in Chongqing, China!

Comments on the professor

Tian Laoshi (Chinese for Teacher Tian) encourages her students to actively participate throughout the lecture and is very patient with us when we struggle to pronounce a particular word or sentence. Be prepared for her to call your name as she will ask you a question in Chinese and you will be expected to respond back in Chinese!

Advice

I would say review even a bit of Chinese before taking, but the course will take care of the teaching for the most part!
