Comments on the course

With Henning, the class starts out a little tricky, ramps up in difficulty towards the middle, and then holds than level towards the end. Midterms and final were fair. The assignments each week will take you a good evening to complete, but they are helpful and there isn't much other work. Textbook was free, written by Henning. Henning releases old assignment questions to study from. If you can do most of these somewhat quickly, you should be good for the midterms and final. If you're interested in MECH, you'll like this class. Henning is enthusiastic about the material and that rubs off on you. Be proactive in studying and this class will go by smoothly.

Advice

Read the textbook and take a short page of notes for the chapter before you attempt each assignment. The textbook is concise and very helpful. It shouldn't take you much more than an hour to take notes on an entire chapter. This will end up saving you time on assignments. Plus, when you go back through to study for midterms, you'll already have these notes ready. Midterms are fast. You will not have much time to stop and think about how you solve a problem. But for this class, that's OK! All of the problems follow a similar procedure -- just make sure you have spent enough time studying to build that "mental flowchart" of how solve them.

Comments on the course

[Taken Online] Henning is a very very good prof, him and his TA team were very coordinated and always available to help outside of class. Class is very hard, the midterms and final were very fair but hard exams. Make sure you do lots and lots of relevant questions, as this is the best way to prepare, equation sheets are not going to help at all since most questions are about HOW you can change an equation to work for you instead of WHAT equation to use. Lecture's are 100% mandatory, do not miss any if possible. Make sure you get a very strong understanding of the stat tables early.

Advice

hard works pays off in this class, I failed the first midterm and ended up with a decent grade just from doing lots and lots of practice, don't get discouraged early as the class is a lot harder than most of the concepts from first year Eng.
