Don’t recommend for a gen ed humanities credit, unless you’re passionate about philosophy and like it a lot, but even then idk. There are far better and easier classes to take, and there are also better professors for this class. Don’t recommend taking with Robitzsch. My TA wasn’t great either. Lectures are mandatory, and after 3 personal absences, it’s a -10 point deduction for your grade for each unexcused absence. The lectures are also kinda boring, as well as the smaller class discussions (ofc depends on your TA).

There was 1 discussion assignment due every week, 3 papers, 1 mid semester argument exam, and one final. The reading was very long, so definitely get ready to read, though it is possible to get by without reading everything and just skimming on important points, however the exams and the papers rely on reading (as well as the lectures) for sure. Papers were complex, and grading took a while plus the way they were graded was weird, it was pretty hard to get a perfect score. The mid semester final was where you basically analyzed 8-10 prompts in whether or not they were valid arguments plus outlining the arguments and other stuff. He was clearly passionate about the subject and put effort into remembering the names of students (for the most part) but he would also ramble during the lectures and would give examples that don’t really make sense. Sometimes I was actually baffled by the content cuz I had zero clue what he was saying. Tough grader, took a while to grade, and just isn’t the best teacher.

Again, get ready to read, attend the classes, take notes, and apparently going to office hours can be helpful if you’re struggling so do that if you need. I don’t recommend overall, but if you like philosophy then by all means take the class- it might make you not like philosophy any more though, I was happy to be done with the class.

Easy class, barely have to go to class, consists of essays and Perusall assignments.

The course is fairly straightforward with only 4 assignments and the 4th assignment is the only full essay. Every assignment builds off the one from before, skill-wise, so the workload is very light.

The course content was decently interesting I'm not going to lie, it makes you think about really basic concepts, like debates in what constitutes knowledge understanding, which I enjoy. I don't see myself using the course later on in my career but nonetheless, I don't regret taking it.

The professor is kind of dry, if you crack a couple of jokes he'll laugh but the class atmosphere is pretty dull. He is a very strict grader, it's rare he gives out 100s.

Attendance and participation are all up to you. Staying home won't help you, he has a very specific writing style that I have never encountered in any of my classes and they are not posted in Canvas (only the reading material is). Show up, take notes, and drop into office hours.
