Prof: Dr. Perez / Fall 2025

Prior IB Chem knowledge carried my through this class, hard. Exams are like 80% of your grade, but you're allowed a cheatsheet on them. Homeworks are insanely difficult but the exams are much easier. Overall, not hard to get an A, as long as you lock in for the exams. Make sure to study hard and put a lot of homework problems/in-class question examples on your cheat sheet, tho.
It's analogous to CHM2045, but includes a lot of additional Chemistry content that isn't really necessary for future Chem classes. Pretty interesting but a lot of the material for the last exam was, I felt, unnecessary.
Dr. Perez clearly knows a lot about Chemistry, but unfortunately does not do well with explaining lectures about Chemistry. Past a certain point in the semester, I completely stopped paying attention to lecture and just focused on doing homework.
Just focus on exams and you're fine.

Prof: Dr. Savin / Fall 2022

Dr. Savin is a very good lecturer, and you can tell he’s excited about the content he’s teaching. The exams weren’t too difficult as long as you knew what you were doing and paid attention in class. We were allowed as many notes as we wanted on the exam, but don’t rely on them too heavily or you won’t finish. Overall, do the work and you’ll be ok.
There was a free online textbook that was useful to read before classes, weekly homeworks, and learning catalytics questions in class. The homeworks were the hardest part, but if you go to office hours the ta’s will help you through it and sometimes even give you the answers.
Dr. Savin is a very nice and funny professor, and you can tell he makes an effort to get to know his students. Go to his office hours!!
Study groups for the homeworks makes the class 10x easier!!
