Prof: Luis Favela / Fall 2020

Dec 21, 2020

Comments on the course

Please stay the hell away from this professor if you are walking an extremely fine line for med school or need to maintain a high GPA. If he doesn't like you, he will grade you extremely harshly on his papers. Isn't it arguably pedantic to drop half a letter grade over minor formatting issues like the tabbing/spacing of my title (not an exaggeration)??? Imo, yes. 90% chance you won't fall on his bad side, and if you participate in class he'll let you get an A. My experience is not the experience of the entire class, and it does not speak for the larger majority. I never write reviews, but just in case- in the rare chance this class doesn't go well, please don't take this class if you need to maintain a high GPA.

Advice

Quizzes are doable. Get ready to read and lectures are long. Papers will make or break your grade. Very textbook, cut and dry material he teaches. He's funny sometimes in lecture.

Professor Cash did a great job of emphasizing the importance of philosophy in interdisciplinary studies. The class provides readings from many backgrounds and many topics. The class is made up of readings, questions, discussions, exams, and an essay.

Advice

There is a fair amount of reading to do, but as long as you read it honestly and on time, you will do great.
