Prof: Michael Mcalpin / Spring 2021

Comments on the course

Never Respond to emails. Takes forever to post grades (almost 2 months and we don't have grades for HW1). Does not prepare for lectures most of the time, and you can tell because he gets stuck on a slide trying to figure it out. Some student questions go unanswered because he adds texts to the slides that he does not know. Slow communicator. Often talks about other things not related to the topic. on hand. He does not explain much some topics. Many mistakes on the exams. Promises to do things and never does. Lack of integrity. He is not a teacher at all. Stay away. You will not learn much. Student could not decide whether to withdraw the class because they did not know their grades. He struggles with Zoom. I can't believe UCF still hires him. Read the Rate my professor website.

Advice

If you HAVE to take him, go to office hours, use the slides to know the topics and research and learn about them on your own. Record the lecture and watch it in 1.7x the speed (he speaks slowly). He gives some review problems but that is not enough to be prepared for the exams

Prof: Travis Meade / Fall 2020

Dec 27, 2020

Comments on the course

Meade continues to struggle effectively teaching at UCF. He is without a doubt very knowledgeable about Computer Science, and he would be a great person to talk about all types of theory and general topics in conversation. But, when we are trying to do assignments and pass exams, Meade is by far one of the worst at preparing us to do well. The cutoff for passing was a 50%, with 4 dropped assignments out of 10 total (3 labs, 7 Programming Assignments) and 3 tests. Unless you are truly passionate, you will feel lost with his method of teaching and be hopelessly bored watching him try to explain things.

Advice

Don't fall behind, because you will not pass this class if you do. There is way too much course material for any sort of slacking. Stay around the curve and focus on the labs and easy assignments, these can set you up early to do well. And don't cheat, he gives negative grades instead of 0's.

Prof: Gerber / Summer 2020

Dec 23, 2020

Comments on the course

Gerber is a nice professor. This is the first time he taught this class and it did show a little bit. Lectures were online through zoom and were recorded for later viewing. Delivery was mostly reading powerpoints with not very much live coding. Only reason I put 4/5 stars for easy were because of the programming assignments. They can be challenging but definitely doable.

Advice

Start early on assignments. He makes homework and programming assignments very difficult to teach you. Exams are rather easy if you know the content.
