The class is really fun and interesting! You have to read a lot (books, excerpts, folklore research, etc.), but they're all pretty fun pieces.

I doubt I'll ever use my folklore knowledge, but learning about the Tale of the Heike, watching Kwaidan, and hearing how Buddhism came to Japan was fun.

Foster is a really great guy, he's super inclusive and he likes to make the effort to learn your name if you go to class in person. He's happy to help you in office hours, and he is very passionate about folklore.

Definitely buy that book "The Demon at Agi Bridge and Other Japanese Tales", I could not find a PDF anywhere so I had to buy it. We used it in class for a while.
