Comments on the course

If you are interested in computer science, math, or logic, this class is for you and will be trivially easy. It can especially help with understanding topics related to theory of combination and binary logic (read: CPSC 121). If you are not interested in math or logic, then this will be a weirdly abstract class which can be hard to grasp and do well in. (AKA, not a GPA booster if you are not good with logic)

Advice

Read the textbook before class.

Comments on the course

Someone told me this class was easy. So I took it thinking it would be a GPA booster. I was doing well early on. But I found the material very boring and never wanted to study. The class got a bit harder near the end. I ended up bombing the final and my overall grade was pretty bad.

Advice

Be careful and don’t take this class if you don’t enjoy logic/math type classes. This class takes a good amount of effort to do well. There are probably easier classes that would be a GPA booster.

Comments on the course

Jonathan is an amazing prof and he made supplement videos for topics that were challenging in addition to many other resources he provided. Judging by median class grades on midterms and quizzes, I think that, for the most part, people got above an 80.

Advice

If you don't want a heavy course work load this won't be that bc of all the practice you'll need to understand concepts.

Comments on the course

Gets very long and monotonous.

Advice

Don't do what I did - not staying up-to-date with coursework and just studying everything before the tests. Practice and memorization is key.

Prof: Jonathan Ichikawa / Fall 2020

Comments on the course

Another wonder class, but not the easiest. While it actually was easier than I expected, I had prior logic experience so this go-around was easier for me. That’s why I rate it the way I do, assuming you’re fresh into logic. Dr. Ichikawa teaches well, is accessible, and strives to make class an enjoyable experience (and succeeds). Would take it again, if I was to do it all over again.

Advice

Be diligent and do the homework. Also, practice, practice, practice till you nail it.
