Comments on the course

The class is overall pretty easy; the content wasn't difficult, honestly, it's just a bit boring if you don't care about the course content. There are no quizzes or exams; most of the grade is reading, discussion responses, journal responses, and attendance. There's just a mid-semester project and a final project, one is a live presentation, which is pretty easy, all things considered. The final project is basically a reflection piece on your previous work in the course.

Course Content

In this course, you are expected to learn a foreign language, and basically all of the assignments revolve around your experience learning that language. The readings are about the most effective ways to learn a foreign language, and each week you have a journal about what you've learned in your language. Overall, this class is niche in its usefulness, if you care about how to learn a language, it's a great course.

Comments on the professor

The professor is very heavy on in-class active participation. He will actively call on you and can be very temperamental if he notices that many students aren't engaging. I also noticed he was fairly passive-aggressive towards people who he thinks are wrong, while saying you aren't wrong and asking for clarification and defense of your opinions.

Advice

You will be required to learn a language at a self-taught pace. Do not take this course if you don't want to do this, as the entire course and most coursework are about your experience learning this language.
