Prof: Alessandro Rigolon / Fall 2022
Oct 31, 2022
CMP 2010 (Design Ecologies) has been, in my experience, not very good. The lectures can be great, but the other portions of the class feel like busy work and filler.
To give some background, I am coming to the class from more of a social science (political science & economics) and wanted to take this class to learn more about city planning and urban ecology. However, with how this class is structured, one tends to learn more about design than anything else. About 75% of the workload is making posters on illustrator. While they're supposed to go along with what you learn in lectures, it feels like a separate class. It feels like this class was shoved into design foundations without much thought, or it was once great but utterly ruined to cater to architecture and MDD students. I'm not getting all I can from city planning, and I'm not getting all you can from design.
Professor Rigolon is a great guy! As stated before, his lectures can be engaging. He is probably the best part of the class.
Before joining this class, especially if you are coming from social science trying to get a minor in urban ecology like I was, know that this class is practically a watered-down design course. Without much design or visual art experience, you are bound to struggle.
