Prof: Ghassan Zakaria / Spring 2025

The class was way too linear compared to other language courses. However you will learn a lot. Textbook reliant, not too much socializing outside of just you and the professor
Modern Standard Arabic, really sets the foundation of writing, simple vocab, and phonetics especially. The textbook contains Levantine and Arabic words so if you catch yourself with extra time you can pick up the other variants.
Professor Zakaria truly was one of the most inspirational professors, however for an online class I wish he could’ve done more to get us altogether on zoom or on campus he has a great sense of humor and gives the most honest feedback, however the material felt too linear and that’s why I can’t give a 5/5 on everything.
If you’re a non heritage speaker, this is the course for you. You will learn how to read and speak, and you will do it fast. If you’re a heritage speaker, be very careful about using your ethnic dialect because points will be knocked off. Overall don’t be afraid of professor Zakaria and ask all the questions you can!
