In my experience taking this class, It has been wonderful! The class is fast-paced and requires a disciplined study schedule in order to get all of the weekly readings and listening done. If you miss a class, slides will not be uploaded to canvas. This means you will need to make sure you read and study that chapter/section extra well because on the midterm/final there will be material from each class you will be tested on. There is an in-person midterm and final, some transcription/arrangement projects, and quizzes each week. The final covers only material from after the midterm.

Learning about music/notation history has been eye-opening and is helping to flourish my music studies in new ways!

Professor Fick is very intelligent, and always has information to offer in the field of musicology that isn't strictly related to the textbooks we study out of. She offers perspective, mind-expanding questions, and you can tell she genuinely cares about each student. No cons!

I wish I had brushed up on study techniques before the midterm, because the Score ID and Listening ID portions were quite comprehensive.
