This class is phenomenal. The subject is interesting, the professor is amazing, and the workload is interesting, thoughtful, and challenging.

Watching specific queer related movies, doing film reviews, and discussing in depth filming techniques and directing choices and how they relate to queer culture, film, and various readings and ideologies.

Dr. Smith was incredible. Kind, knowledgeable, enthusiastic. I never felt like a comment I made was unappreciated. I always felt like the environment prioritized learning. The way sensitive subjects were brought up felt respectful and cautious. Dr. Smiths passion shined through.

This class goes over very sensitive films, some of which depict gender based violence, race based violence, and uncomfortable topics regarding sexuality, race, and gender. These are all incredibly interesting films that lead into deep conversations, but they are difficult to watch.
