This was a great class that offered a clear and approachable introduction to the world of accounting. It helped me realize how much I enjoy learning about accounting concepts, and whether it’s a field I might want to pursue more seriously. The class had a relaxed pace, which made it easier to absorb the material without added pressure. I appreciated that there were plenty of reminders about when quizzes were open and closed, and the fact that both the quizzes and the final exam were untimed made it much more manageable to focus on understanding the content and getting the answers right.
The content of the class centered around foundational accounting principles—things like the accounting equation, basic financial statements, cost-volume-profit analysis, and budgeting. While the topics were geared toward beginners, they were extremely useful. These concepts aren’t just relevant for people going into finance—they also apply in day-to-day life, whether you’re managing a budget, understanding financial news, or running your own business. The class provided a practical toolkit that I can carry into many real-world situations, and it laid a solid foundation for more advanced business courses.
The professor was clearly knowledgeable and confident when explaining accounting topics, especially when questions came up during class. It was obvious that he had a strong grasp of the material and could break down complex concepts in a simple and understandable way. One downside, however, was that email responses were often delayed. Faster communication would’ve helped when dealing with urgent issues or clarifications about assignments. That said, his laid-back style and structured course design made the class enjoyable and informative.
One thing I wish I had known before starting the course was that there are weekly discussion posts on Packback, which are required and graded. These discussions take some effort and time each week, and staying on top of them is important. I also didn’t realize we needed to purchase the MyBusinessCourse Pack right away, which is necessary for quizzes and homework. I recommend that future students budget both their time and money accordingly. Still, the discussions are a great way to explore real-world applications of accounting and think like a business owner.
