Very fun class!

We learn to do various partner dances one move at a time. I personally feel enlightened and my perception of dance has been forever changed for the better.

No cons that I can think of. Professor’s very easy to talk to and get along with.

Don’t be afraid to talk to other people in the class! I personally feel like I didn’t do enough to connect with my classmates, and I feel I could’ve made some good friends in this class if I had tried.

I loved it so much, it was super fun to learn all the different types of dances because I’ve never done anything like them before.

This class was so entertaining and easy to follow. Everything was taught well and it’s especially fun to take with friends.

You learn many different styles of ballroom dance, including swing, waltz, meringue, cha cha, tango, and rumba. The semester started off feeling kinda slow, because the basics can be boring, despite their importance. However, it really picks up about 1/3 or 1/2 through the semester and then the time flies. It’s surprising how much you can learn in so little time and it’s a fun workout sometimes too.

Michael Scoggins was a very entertaining professor and overall taught everything exceptionally well. Every once in a while he doesn’t explain things the best, but he is always open and excited for questions and clarifications about steps. He is very against phone usage, understandably so, and doesn’t like extra talking as he’s trying to explain things. But he’s not strict or mean by any means, and you can tell he loves what he does!

Definitely recommend taking this class with a friend, as it’s a lot more fun to dance with someone you’re comfortable with, but if you don’t have a friend taking the class, don’t be scared to introduce yourself to someone and kinda buddy up with them - again the class is so much more fun when you enjoy the presence of your partner

I wish we had more time per week because i feel like some dances were learned and then forgotten

This is such a fun class. Scoggins is a super fun and encouraging instructor. The class is easy as long as you show up and try. I taught my fiancée the moves I learned in this class and we’ll be using them at our wedding in August!

Mike makes this class so much fun. I was very nervous at first but there was really no reason to be. Everyone is there to learn and have fun and no one is going to judge you.

Super fun class! Definitely a bit of a workout, but worth it. Mike and helpers are great and the class is very low pressure. Easy A as long as you try.

Class is divided into leads and follows. Anyone of any gender can pick which they are. Professor unfortunately still refers to them as men and women, but has no objections to whoever picks what.

Lot of fun, great way to meet people and relax. I took this course as a break from all of my science and math classes. Was really nervous at first, but the professor & TAs were friendly and easygoing, and had a lot of fun dancing with people. Took this class and then the social dance before COVID. If you need a class to stay above 12 credit hours or you want a break from your other classes, HIGHLY recommend this one.

Class goes over different types of ballroom dance. In the two semesters I took, I learned the swing, the waltz, the cha-cha, the salsa, the foxtrot, and the tango. Meringue too but that one was really simple. Scoggins also goes over like the history of the dances, but it's just fun facts, he won't test on it or anything like that. You're not gonna use it in your day to day life, but it's a great skill to have and you get to network quite a bit since the classes are fairly large.

Really great guy; lots of laughs, easy to approach, and good teacher all around. A bit loud, but he's just really passionate about dance. Works with students with accommodations well and is pretty flexible all around
