Comments on the course

one of the best electives i've taken at mac

Course Content

half the grade is you picking a community partner at the start of the term and working in a group with 3 other 3S03 students to actually implement a solution to their inquiry and then you present the results at a showcase in december the other half of your grade is based on three reading assignments, a final reflection, and participation during lecture

Comments on the professor

great prof that makes class worth attending and content easy to understand. the lectures are interactive with new topics each week that are based on current events. the best is that she explains the rubric before the assignment is due so you know the expectations and can think like the TA would to get marks. she's one of the best i've had a mac

Advice

follow the rubric and meet with ur project group every week and you're golden

Basically half your grade are the reflection assignments and participating in the class activities. The other half is group work. Classes are discussion/activity heavy, but it works bc you're actually engaging in the material than listening to a slide show presentation for 3 hours so you gotta come to class ready to participate (the kahoot halloween lecture was goated). She only uploads the slides after class, but I would remember the content bc she made it relatable/relevant to how it applies to our class projects, so that is what made the content memorable for me. I took this course just to finish my minor, but it was the one lecture this semester I actually looked forward to

Course Content

You'll learn about project management and how to work in groups to implement a project in the real world. It's like the application of the other sustain courses bc you actually work with a community member to implement a project on campus. Idk how useful if you're not gonna be a project manager or work in sustainability, but it looks good on the resume and grad school apps. The communication skills you learn are useful tho. You're working in your project groups throughout the semester, during lectures she assigns you to work with those that are not in your project group, and you have to work with a bunch of community members to actually implement your project. You gotta come ready to be social hahaha

Comments on the professor

Pros are that she actually knows how to explain things in a way that gets you to understand the concepts, there are no test, lectures are well organized with examples that are current in the news, answers emails quickly, and she's actually helpful if the project you're implementing is having problems. Con is that deadlines are STRICT and no MSAFs. She just gives everyone automatic 3-day extensions for individual assignments but if you submit after the grace period, then you get a 4 day late penalty SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS, I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE. Overall I really liked her and you can tell she actually likes teaching

Advice

Follow the rubrics and hope you get a good TA. The only thing she marks is the final group assignment and that was marked way better than the other assignments. If you can get into the course, it's actually an elective worth going to and it's easy to 12 if you put in effort into the reflections and stay on top of ur project

pros? she only had cons. The course just feels disorganized and unclear. Lectures aren’t always structured well, and it’s hard to tell what’s actually important for tests. Assignments can be vague, expectations aren’t always clear, and feedback is minimal. The pacing feels off, some things are rushed while others drag. Overall, it just feels more stressful and confusing than it needs to be.

Advice

dont take this class, i am being so for real, dont even think about it. She will ruin your semester
