Comments on the course

Overall, I loved this class - it was the perfect mix of interesting and practical, and it complimented the stuff we learned in PSYCH 1X03 very nicely. Highly recommend it if you're interested in the science of people.

Course Content

The content is mainly structured around the behaviours and cognitions of human beings. It's simple enough to grasp but there are a LOT of theories, terms and language that you need to learn - it'll absolutely be on the test.

Comments on the professor

Dr. Speakman is awesome - like a cool wine aunt, if I had to describe her. She does her best to make lectures engaging and entertaining and runs like a madman from section to section to answer questions. Her lectures are generally pretty concise and she uses class time well. My TA, Grace, was fantastic as well. My one gripe is that she doesn't provide any practice questions to prep for the tests and quizzes, which would be super helpful.

Advice

First of all, the textbook is pretty much required, but do NOT read every page of every chapter - there's so much useless fluff. There's a summary at the very end of each chapter that pretty much tells you all you need to know. Also, you don't have to get the newest version of the text - I used a digital copy of the Seventh Canadian Edition (got that from a friend :) ) and didn't miss out at all.
