I think the course is beneficial for anyone who is pursuing a health care career. For the term, you only have 2 tests, a podcast group assignment and a tutorial. The lectures can be boring (on some level), but they do pertain information that is useful. TAs are super kind and supportive, but are on some level hard markers, so make sure to always listen and follow any feedback from them. I found the entire course to have a decent workload as long as you kept up with the work and lectures.
Tests: You have to finish two tests during the term, both of which are open book. No final exam! However, I still recommend studying for these tests because they are tough and rely heavily on your notes and textbook (more so on the textbook) Assignment: You have to complete a group podcast assignment, which is broken into 4 sections, over the entire term. For this assignment, I recommend completing the work early and getting feedback from your TAs on which to improve on. Don't take these assignments lightly; it can really impact your overall mark. Lectures: Useful, but too much information to absorb each lecture. You learn about many things (ex. the health care system, racism, etc).
Pros: - The professor is very knowledgeable, supportive, communicative and kind towards the students. If you have any questions for her, she will get back to you quickly. - Takes the time to assist you - don't be afraid to ask her for help! - Gives good feedback Cons: - Lectures were hard to follow; this will depend mostly on your preference on how you focus and take notes during a lecture - reads directly from PowerPoint. - PowerPoints are heavy with information - might change!
- Textbook is a MUST to pass this class - For the podcast, start things early (and choose your group members wisely) - Tests are not easy, even if it is open book. - This course is NOT a bird course!

Overall a pretty good course, and one that's easy to do well in. 20% of your grade is attendance/participation in weekly tutorials. You're evaluated on one essay, one presentation, and a final exam that's online and open book, so it's not very difficult to get a 12 with a little effort on these 3 projects.
The content was super interesting to me, you learn a lot about the medical field through a social science perspective. We talked about current health issues in the news, and factors that contribute that contribute to health inequities in society. There are assigned weekly readings, however the entirety of the lecture content is just explaining them, and so I didn't actually find it necessary to read them.
Dr. Voros is an amazing prof and part of the reason I picked this course. She's super kind, and makes it clear she wants you to succeed in the course and isn't there to trick you.
This was my first course in the socsci field, and I guess I was just more aware how subjective marking can be. So I would advise anyone to listen to their TA's feedback carefully.
