Comments on the course

This is a required course that every student must take at Ivy Tech. I have never experienced such a waste of time in my entire life. Not only did this class waste my time, it took time away from me that I would have much rather used on any of my other courses where I'm actually learning anything at all. I am writing this in the hopes that someone at Ivy Tech with the power to make a change reads this, and realizes what a ridiculous class this is, and that at the very least, it shouldn't be a required tumor in which you have to choose which eight weeks would be best to be bogged down by pointless assignments.

Course Content

This class teaches you nothing, and could be summed up like this: find time to study. It attempts to teach you stuff that you already know (study to get good grades, sleep to be more awake, put your phone down to focus better). With three assignments a week minimum, one always being a discussion with two required responses to classmates, the workload is more than some of the courses I've taken that actually taught me valuable lifelong information.

Comments on the professor

The professor was the best part about the class bar none. The professor sent out multiple announcements per week trying to motivate us to complete assignments and with nice positive messages at the end. She gave meaningful feedback on every assignment, even if it was just a "great job!" when getting a good grade on something. I never found myself needing to reach out for help, but if I did I have no doubt that I would receive comprehensive and helpful emails back from her answering my questions in detail. Again, she was a phenomenal professor, but unfortunately, due to the nature of this class and its required rigid structure which she couldn't control, she was not enough, or rather no one could be enough, to warrant even a second star out of five.

Advice

Just be prepared to be talked down to by the textbook, learn no new information, and hope that I'm wrong about everything I've said. Hopefully this class is just a me problem, and hopefully most students pull a lot out of it.
