Comments on the course

This section of HON 102 focused on the Arabian Nights and was honestly a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. The curriculum includes readings for each class meeting period, an oral presentation towards the end of the class, and a final paper. Prof Schultz has a true love for this topic and brings in a lot of books and other artifacts to class for students to pass around.

Course Content

The beginning of the class focuses on what the content of the stories of the Arabian Nights is, and readings can be very heavy, however a light skimming of them is really all you need for in class discussions. Other topics related to the Nights are touched on, like culture, context, and how the Nights have been viewed throughout history.

Comments on the professor

Prof Schultz has a wide variety of knowledge on the topic and works hard to make the class interesting. He brings in a lot of artifacts from his personal collection relating to the Nights, however he does tend to lecture on if there's not a lot of class participation going on.

Advice

Prof Schultz has a very particular way of setting up his D2L site. Make sure to check everything carefully for assignment info and due dates! Take notes on readings when you skim them to bring up topics in class for participation points. (Reading the entirety of readings is NOT NECESSARY but make sure to pick out one or two interesting things to talk about)
