Comments on the course

Pop culture is a fun and interesting class. The online format is easy to navigate and there were only 3 papers and 3 open-book quizzes the whole semester. I learned more about pop culture than I previously had known.

Course Content

The class requires 2 textbooks, one is a condensed online version and the other is a thicker book (that is an easy read but chapters are long). Both are available online through the school for free, which is great for students. Both books are very useful to the course content. Visuals (video clips, audio, etc.) also provide a better understanding to weekly lectures and readings. The overall content of this course is useful, especially when connecting various historical events and understanding American history through popular culture.

Comments on the professor

Dr. Gough is a laid-back professor who is passionate about his field. He structured the class to be as streamlined as possible, and is always available via zoom or email to chat or answer any questions. He offers a couple weeks of extra credit towards the end of the semester, which shouldn't be necessary for students who regularly participate, but is fun anyway. I don't think there really are any cons about Dr. Gough.

Advice

Devote some time for the weekly readings. The readings might be long (~40 page chapters), but they are interesting and easy to understand.
