Prof: Brent Hogan / Fall 2021
Jan 11, 2022
This is the ideal degree-adjacent class. It doesn't overstay its welcome and serves its purpose for what it is.
The class itself serves as a great practice for writing in technical or formal settings. Being able to properly typeset documents is now a skill that's needed and this class delivers on that. The textbook is freely provided by the school (thankfully) so no one needs to pay for it. It's used heavily and is example driven. The class will teach you how to write technical essays, letters, presentations, and research papers.
Professor was a very personable and lively guy. He cared about his job and seemed very human. I would strongly suggest getting him if you have to take this class.
Be prepared to write a lot on a computer. Obtain software that can do this. Libreoffice works on Windows, MacOS, and Linux. LaTeX is the ideal tool for this class as it handles most formatting, but it has a slight learning curve. It's also available on the trio of operating systems mentioned.
