Comments on the course

I found portions of this course to be genuinely useful, and likely applicable to future writing. I would not consider this class to be particularly difficult as long as you don't procrastinate to the last minute before starting your essays.

Course Content

The writing in this class has a greater emphasis on traditional academic writing than ENG 101 does. I found the practice with incorporating sources with quotes and citations useful. The overarching assignment construct of the "problem-solution proposal" is used as a background for persuasive writing. I am not a fan of this choice, but it wasn't a big problem. For assignments, you will have a collection of short writings such as discussion posts, along with some research meta-writing assignments as to prepare for your slightly longer, culminating essay. The course basically takes the writing process you would use to compose something like a research paper, and turns each of the steps into its own assignment along the way.

Comments on the professor

Prof Funk obviously cares a great deal about his students' success. He gives detailed and personal feedback for the writing assignments, and just good advice in general. He is extremely accomodating with schedules. (Don't abuse this and ruin it for future classes!) Prof Funk answers emails quickly and makes regular announcements in Canvas.

Advice

Not much to say here. I don't like writing, and I passed. You'll be fine. Just do the work and it will work out.
