The course was introductory but definitely content heavy. You do have to memorize a lot of Spanish verb conjugations, vocabulary and grammar. But personally I found them easier to study and liked this course so much. If you know other romance language like French, Italian, Portuguese etc. you will have advantages for learning Spanish. But this is a language that requires a lot of efforts and you do have to commit a huge amount of time to study the language. So definitely participate a lot in each lecture! I also want to mention that this course is way much interactive and communicative than other language course such as "University French I" because that helps you to practice the language and you also get opportunity to be participated in one week study trip to Cuba for cultural engagement...read more
The content was from the most easist then getting harder gradually. But if you go to your instructor's office hour or any Spanish tutoring hours that will definitely help a lot! A lot of assessments though, again this is a language course so it has to complete all of these assessments. I don't recommend you to skip for any quizzes or tests or written evaluation because they will not make any make-up assessments and will add these missed to the next assessment unless you have to. This course also helps you build a solid foundation for further studying in Spanish languages if you are really motivated and want to continue studying Spanish.
The professor is very knowledgeable and nice as an instructor. He might be slightly pickier but you get to learn what mistakes you have made for learning Spanish. He is passionated about teaching Spanish to students and is also willing to help you if you have question so just make sure you go to his office hour a lot. I would say the final exam had a lot of compositions and it was for entire 3 hours so my hands.

Terrible. Killed my first year average, and a complete waste of a 1.0 credit. Can’t even count toward most majors.
The content was boring, sit there listen get called on.
Not great, didn’t learn much, and I put in the work.
Don’t take it. Average killer. This is coming from someone who studied for it, and whose parents used to speak Spanish.

Very hard to learn the content from less than 10 minute videos. A lot of the content you are expected to know with little teaching. Too much work to do per week. The quizzes and tests are timed, which is unfair if the language is new to you. This does not feel like beginner at all.
No not useful, just based on fill in the blanks and not actually learning how to speak the language. Would be better if there were synchronous zoom calls or better videos to actually comprehend what we are learning. It feel as though we are teaching ourselves everything.
The professor I have met is very nice, just the way this class is taught is not helpful.
I would rather take the in person class.
