Comments on the course

Dr. O'Bonsawin's expertise in and enthusiasm for the subject matter made this course very interesting and engaging. She made efforts to incorporate videos, films, and papers on a variety of subjects. Most weeks, an average of three research papers were assigned to read before lecture. All lectures were held asynchronously, and they were organized, easy to follow, and rife with information that was relevant to the final exam. Topics covered included the foundation of the modern Olympic Games, racism and sexism perpetuated by the International Olympic Committee, the financial strain of hosting the Games, security and terrorism concerns, and Indigenous rights with regard to hosting the Games on unceded land. There were four assignments: a self-location paper; a research proposal followed by more

Take good notes! I took tons of notes while watching lecture videos, and those notes were very helpful when completing the take-home final exam. And watch every lecture: the course was divided into subject-themed weeks, and I think something from every week's subject was featured in at least one question on the final.
